Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use genomics.study, why, on what legal basis, for how long, who receives it, and what your rights are under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy rules.
1. Who is responsible
The controller is VIF Innovations, LLC. For any question about your data, or to exercise any of the rights below, write to webmaster@genomics.study.
2. Your sequences
Every calculation runs in JavaScript inside your browser. The sequences you paste or type are never sent to our server or to anyone else, and none of the optional services described below can read them.
3. Delivering the website
To send you the page, the web server that hosts genomics.study necessarily receives your IP address together with the usual technical request details (time, requested file, browser identification, referring page). This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure, so the legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These server logs are kept only as long as needed for that purpose and are not used to profile you. The fonts are served from our own server; no font or script CDN is contacted.
4. Remembering your consent choice
Your answer to the consent banner is saved in your browser’s local
storage (key gsc-consent-v2: your two choices, the date and
the banner version). It never leaves your device. Storing it is strictly
necessary to respect your choice, so it does not require consent. It
expires after 6 months, after which you are asked again; you can also
delete it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
5. Google Analytics (only if you allow it)
If, and only if, you tick Analytics in the consent banner, the page loads Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which parts of the site are used. Until you allow it, Google’s script is not even downloaded.
- Provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, acting as our processor; its parent Google LLC (USA) may also process the data.
- Data: your IP address (used by Google to derive an approximate location such as country and city, then discarded and not stored), the pages you view and when, the referring page, browser and operating system, device type, screen size and language, and a random identifier stored in cookies.
- Cookies on genomics.study:
_gaand_ga_GKBP34RG88, which hold the random identifier so that repeat visits are recognised; they expire after 2 years unless you withdraw consent or delete them sooner. - Purpose: aggregate usage statistics only. Google signals, advertising features and ad personalisation are switched off; the data is not used for advertising.
- Retention: event data is deleted by Google after 2 months.
- Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive).
- Transfer outside the EU: data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, covered by the European Commission’s adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 (Art. 45 GDPR).
- More information: Google Privacy Policy.
When you withdraw analytics consent, the script stops sending data
immediately and the _ga cookies are deleted from your
browser.
6. Affiliate advertisements (only if you allow them)
If, and only if, you tick Affiliate ads, the page shows partner banners. Without that choice the banner code is never activated and no request is made to the networks below.
- Networks: CJ (Commission Junction LLC, USA; banners served from anrdoezrs.net, lduhtrp.net, jdoqocy.com and ftjcfx.com) and Awin (Awin AG, Germany; awin1.com). Each acts as an independent controller for the data it receives.
- Data: when a banner is shown, your browser fetches the image from the network, which receives your IP address, browser details and the page you are on. If you click a banner, the network records the click so that a purchase or sign-up can be credited to us, and may set its own cookies on its domains.
- Purpose: showing the advertisements that fund this free tool, and crediting referrals.
- Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive).
- Transfer outside the EU: CJ is based in the USA; see its policy for the safeguards it relies on.
- More information: CJ privacy policy, Awin privacy policy. Cookies the networks set on their own domains can only be deleted from your browser settings.
7. Changing or withdrawing your consent
Consent is voluntary and the converter works fully without it. You can change or withdraw it at any time, as easily as you gave it, with the Change analytics & ads choice link in the footer of the main page. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before it.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15);
- have it corrected (Art. 16) or erased (Art. 17);
- restrict its processing (Art. 18);
- receive it in a portable format (Art. 20);
- object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21);
- withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7(3));
- lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU country where you live or work (Art. 77).
Because analytics data is tied only to a random identifier, we may be
unable to find your records unless you provide the identifier from your
_ga cookie. We do not make automated decisions about you or
profile you, and you are under no obligation to provide any data.
9. Changes to this policy
If we add services or change how data is used, we will update this page and the consent banner, and ask for your consent again where it is required.
